The Champion golf program played at regionals last week in McAllen and returned to Boerne with the individual champions on both the girls and boys side.

Champion’s Savannah Dupre won the girls individual title and Phoenix Guerra claimed the individual title on the boys side, the first time that’s been done in Boerne ISD golf history.

The Lady Chargers qualified for state, while the Champion boys will send Guerra after the team didn’t advance past the district round.

This year’s girls 5A state tourney is scheduled for May 15-16 at the White Wing Golf Course, while the boys state tourney is scheduled for the following week May 22-23, also at White Wing.

Varsity Girls

The Lady Chargers placed 3rd at regionals to qualify for state by one stroke after they recorded a two-day score of 629 to edge the CC Veterans Memorial team that shot a 630 and finished 4th.

Champion was fifth after the first day with a 323 but shaved 17 strokes off their team score on Day 2 with a 306 to advance.

Alamo Heights Blue won the region with a 600 after rounds of 309 and 291, while Alamo Heights Gold took second with a 627 after shooting rounds of 316 and 311 to beat the Chargers by 2 strokes.

Savannah Dupre paced Champion with a score of 7-under par 137 with rounds of 71 and 66 for 1st place and to set a girls school record at 7 under for two days.

Caroline Franz shot a 75 and 85 for a 160 to finish tied for 19th, Cate Johnson carded a 161 with rounds of 78 and 83 for 21st, Camryn Leslie finished with a 171 after shooting rounds of 82 and 89 to tie for 30th, while Brooke Castillon shot a 174 with rounds of 85 and 89 to tie for 38th.

Prior to regionals, the Champion girls won the district tournament.

Varsity Boys

Champion’s Phoenix Guerra was the only Charger golfer from the boys team that made the trip to McAllen, but Guerra made the most of the trip after he won the region with score of 143 to finish the tourney at 1-under par after shooting rounds of 70 and 73.

Guerra tied Hayden Hardwick of Gregory-Portland with a 143 for the lead but the Charger golfer won on the tiebreaker.

Guerra and Hardwick went to the first hole, a par 5, and Guerra birdied it with a 4, while Hardwick shot a 5.

Prior to regionals, the Champion boys placed 3rd at district, but only the top 2 advance to regionals.
