Champion boys win Area track meet, girls are 2nd

NEW BRAUNFELS – The Champion varsity track and field teams turned in strong performances at this year’s Area meet held last week at NB Canyon.

The Charger boys took 1st place with 169 points to beat the second-place team Smithson Valley (126) by 43 points where 14 teams scored at least a point.

The Lady Chargers were 2nd with 123 points behind Smithson Valley (133) by 10 points.

The top six score points and the top four finishers in each event advance to the regional meet set for this weekend in San Antonio at Heroes Stadium.

Varsity Boys

The Chargers scored a bunch of points in field events after Ben Blomqvist won the high jump by clearing 6-5 and Griffin Jones came in 4th after he went 6-2.

Hayden Brace won the triple jump with a leap of 44-7.5 and Joshua Hierholzer placed 3rd at 43-7.75 while Hierholzer went 22-0.5 for 2nd in the long jump and Brace was 4th at 21-10.

Connor Warzecha won the discus with a throw of 151-8 and Aiden Harris came in 3rd in the event with a toss of 1448, while Riley Wampler heaved the shot put 50-5.25 for 4th.

In wheelchair events, Ephraim Tonn-Bourg recorded a time of 16.92 in the 100-wheelchair race and also finished the 400 with a time of 1:02.

Arlis Adickes clocked in at 10.75 in the 100 dash for 3rd, Luis Tovar won the 800 with a time of 1:56 and Caleb Dehart was 3rd at 1:58. Tovar was also 6th in the 1600 with a time of 4:35 and Charlie Houck came in 2nd in the 3200 after recording a 9:48.

Brock Lewis and Ben Blomqvist went 1-2 in the 110 hurdles after Lewis ran a 14.68 and Blomqvist posted a 14.90. Blomqvist also took 2nd in the 300 hurdles with a 40.06 and Lewis was one spot back in 3rd at 40.09.

The 4x100 relay of Corbin Mitchell, Sawyer Bolli, Ranger Lewis and Arlis Adickes was 4th with a 42.52, the 4x200 relay consisting of Luke Rossi, Bolli, Ranger Lewis and Adickes was 4th in 1:30 and the 4x400 of Hayden Brace, Brock Lewis, Ranger Lewis and Ben Blomqvist captured 2nd with a time of 3:23.

Varsity Girls

Beth Leachman won the 1600 after posting a 4:51, Josey Whitaker came in 3rd in 5:15 and Kynley Albright finished 4th in 5:16.

Leachman also won the 3200 after running a time of 10:17 and Grace Flores was 6th with a 12:04. Leachman’s time of 10:17 set a new school record.

Vanesa Gonzalez took 2nd in the 100 with an 11.84 and Mariela Gonzalez came in 2nd in the 200 at 25.60.

Addison Hankins placed 3rd in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.31, Hankins was also 4th in the 300 hurdles after posting a 46.13 and Kendall Fallon finished 3rd in the 300 hurdles by running a 46.06.

In field events, Peyton Smith went 10-6 in the pole vault for 2nd.

In relays, the team of Madison Meinke, Vanesa Gonzalez, Mariela Gonzalez and Erin Fallon won the 4x100 with a time of 47.40, while the same foursome claimed 2nd in the 4x200 after clocking in at 1:40. Also, the 4x400 of Addison Hankins, Erin Fallon, Destiney Rose and Kendall Fallon combined for a 3:58.27 that was good for 2nd.
