It was Brynn Riebel Day on Monday when the Geneva School of Boerne softball team hosted Schertz John Paul II and Riebel had a memorable game.
Riebel is the lone senior on this year’s Eagles team and she capped her final regular-season home game with a solo home run to center field in the fifth inning.
That hit, along with 15 others, helped Geneva defeat Schertz JP II, 10-2.
Geneva finishes the regular season at 7-5 and was the thirdplace team from their district. The Eagles open the postseason on Wednesday at Bay Area Christian School. The game starts at 3:30 in League City.
Geneva had a fast start on Monday and scored 4 runs in the first thanks in part to a 3-run homer by Kate Friesenhahn. The Eagles added 2 in the second and third frames for the 8-1 lead. Geneva added single runs in the fourth and fifth and didn’t score after that.
Schertz John Paul II plated a run in the second and added another in the fourth and had 1 hit in the game.
Besides the homer, Kate Friesenhahn had 3 other hits, one of them a double, to finish the day 4 for 4 at the plate. She collected 5 RBI game in the contest.
Lily Flora, Tessa Murphy, Trinity Cloud and Reese Smith all finished with 2 hits in the game for the Eagles.
Madeline Egbert was the winning pitcher and improved to 5-4 this year. The only hit JP II came up with was a single in the first inning. She finished with 5 strikeouts.
