Fredericksburg has played the Boerne softball team tough in two district games and on Friday it was good enough to beat the Lady Hounds, 2-1.

In their two games this year, Boerne took the first one at home 1-0 and then last Friday’s was a one-run differential as well. Both teams won at home.

BHS is 23-9 overall and 8-1 in 27-4A. The perfect district season is off the table for the Lady Hounds after Friday, but Boerne can still claim the district title with a win Tuesday at home against Wimberley, a team they beat 14-0 in the first round of district.

In Friday’s game, Fred scored first with a run in the bottom of the first. A double, ground out and a single gave the Billies the 1-0 lead.

Boerne tied it in the third after Bre Krause singled with one out. Krause tagged up and moved to second on an Ava Nieto sac fly for the second out. From there, Taryn Madlock doubled to right field to score Krause and it was knotted up at 1-1.

It stayed tied until the sixth after the Billies put its first batter on and then scored her on a double with no outs. Boerne retired the next three batters in order but Fred had taken the 2-1 lead.

Boerne had one last chance in the seventh to tie it or take the lead and put a runner on after Ava Renteria singled with one out. Renteria moved to second on a sac bunt and then Fred retired the side with a strikeout to end the game.

BHS finished with 4 hits in the game, the RBI double by Madlock, along with singles from Ava Renteria, Isa Renteria and Krause, who scored the only run.

Ava Rodriguez went 6 innings in the circle and gave up 6 hits, 1 earned run, struck out 9 and didn’t walk a batter.
