The Boerne High softball team moved closer to this year’s district title after BHS defeated Canyon Lake at Greyhound Field on Tuesday, 12-1, in four and a half innings.
The Lady Hounds are 23-8 overall and 8-0 in district. A win Friday in Fredericksburg will give Boerne this year’s 27-4A title. After the Fred game, BHS closes out the regular season at home on Tuesday.
Boerne is 8-0 in district and Fredericksburg is 6-2 so Fred’s only chance of tying BHS for the district lead would be to beat them on Friday and win their last game and hope the Lady Hounds fall to Wimberley on Tuesday. Awin by Boerne on Friday would take care of all of that.
The Lady Greyhounds hit 2 more out of the park on Tuesday to give them 35 home runs this season.
With two outs in the second and a 2-1 lead, Ava Nieto slammed a two-run shot to make it 4-1. Later in the inning, Ava Renteria smacked a grand slam to bump the lead to 9-1.
In the next inning, the Lady Hounds tacked on 3 more runs to make it 12-1 and neither team scored beyond the third frame.
Boerne almost had a few more homers after at least two of their hits smashed into the fence and just missing clearing. Boerne finished with 9 hits in the game and besides the home runs, they also recorded 4 doubles. Taylor Wilson hit two 2 baggers, drove in 3 runs and scored twice, Ava Rodriguez doubled and singled, picked up 2 RBI and scored a run, and Nieto also doubled to go with her home run, while she scored twice.
Tarn Madlock walked twice and scored 3 runs, Heidi Maytum scored once, Isa Renteria singled, walked and scored a run, Riley Partin singled and Bre Krause scored a run.
Isa Renteria picked up the win on 84 pitches, gave up 3 hits, no earned runs, struck out 7 and walked 2.
