Champion head coaches Walters, Tully-Mitchell stepping down

Two more Boerne Champion head coaches will be leaving their positions when the school year ends in a few weeks.

Two more Boerne Champion head coaches will be leaving their positions when the school year ends in a few weeks.

Kara Walters will leave the Champion girls soccer program after six years and Jessica Tully- Mitchell is stepping away from the Charger volleyball program after four seasons.

Walters is leaving the teaching/coaching profession and accumulated a record of 112- 30- 8 during her time at Champion. Walters has a career record of 219-85-22 and won a TAPPS state title while coaching at San Antonio Christian prior to coming to Champion.

Her best season with the Chargers came last year when they reached the 5A state tournament.

Tully- Mitchell will depart Champion with a record of 98-53 and has 167 career wins. She also coached at Geneva and Comfort before coming to BISD. Her best season at Champion came in 2019 when they won the district and advanced to the third round of the playoffs.

Two other head coaches have already left their positions at Champion. Keith Kaiser left the football program and was replaced by longtime assistant Blane Ellis, while Alberto Escalante left the swim/dive/water polo program and has been replaced by Scott Slay, who comes from Katy Jordan.
