Boerne High boys soccer coach Michael Strong has been named the 202122 Texas State Coach of the Year by the University Interscholastic League and the National Federation of State High School Associations.
Strong will be honored during halftime of the UIL Class 4A Boys Soccer State Championship game on Friday, April 14.
Strong has had tremendous success on the Greyhounds sidelines, having won back-to-back UIL Class 4A state championships in 2021 and 2022.
This season, Boerne has a record of 25-3-2 and has advanced to the regional tournament this weekend as they continue defense of their state title. Strong also won his 100th career game earlier this season.
Boerne ISD Athletic Director Stan Leech stated, “Coach Strong is absolutely well deserving of this honor. Since he started coaching at Boerne High School our boys soccer program has been elevated to one of the top programs in the state of Texas,” he said. “To win back-to-back state titles is extremely difficult, but Coach Strong led his team to reach that plateau. He is well respected by his players, his peers, and the Boerne community. We are very proud of his accomplishments.”
Strong is in his fifth season with Boerne High, having won five straight district championships, as well as the last two Class 4A state titles. In his first season with the Greyhounds, Strong also led the Greyhound girls to a district championship.
In addition to leading the Greyhound boys soccer team, Strong is an assistant volleyball coach and teaches Earth and Space at Boerne High. He graduated from the University of Kentucky with a BA in Education, Kinesiology.
