Boerne High almost let a 3-0 lead slip away during Friday’s third-round soccer playoff match at Canyon Lake, but had enough gas in the tank to make it to the finish line.

The Lady Greyhounds polished off the Lady Bulldogs 3-2 and improved to 24- 2 overall. They’ll advance to the fourth round or regional semifinals Friday in Corpus Christi. BHS plays Calallen Friday at 2 p.m. and the winner advances to the regional finals on Saturday with a berth to the state tournament on the line.

Hannah Bowen continues to play well in the postseason and accounted for 2 of the team’s 3 goals on Friday. Madeline Davis recorded the other goal, while Kylie Combs assisted on 2 of the goals.

BHS coach Jeremy Shannon said with 10 minutes left and a 3-0 lead, he started to move players in and out but gave credit to the Bulldogs for playing to the end and getting a couple of goals on the Hounds. The goals given up by BHS on Friday were the first they’ve allowed this postseason.

With her 2 goals on Friday, Bowen now has 5 in the last 2 matches after she recorded 3 last week against Kennedy. Davis has 7 goals in their three playoffs matches and Combs has 6 assists in those three playoff matches.
