Before Friday’s contest with Marble Falls, Boerne High boys soccer coach Michael Strong said the Mustangs would give the Greyhounds a stiff test.

Strong was right and Marble Falls put up quite a fight but the Hounds passed the test and won the contest, 2-1, at Dripping Springs.

The Boerne boys are 25-3-2 overall and play Corpus Christi London, Friday at 6:30 p.m. in the regional semis. Friday’s winner plays on Saturday for the regional title and a trip to the state tournament.

Joe Ballenger and Jess Gonzales tallied the goals for the Greyhounds on Friday, while Gonzales assisted on the Ballenger goal.

The two goals the Boerne boys put on the board on Friday are the fewest since regular-season tournament play back in January at Hidalgo, but it was enough to get the job done.

Friday’s opponent, C.C. London, faced the Greyhounds two years ago in the fourth round of the playoffs on Boerne’s way to its first of two state titles. Because of COVID, there was no regional tournament that year and their match was held at Southwest Legacy and the Hounds won, 2-1, against London, a fairly new school at the time.

Strong said he expects a similar type of match from London on Friday in Corpus Christi.
