Brady played the Comfort High softball team much better in their second- round district meeting on Friday, but the results were the same as their-first round contest.
Comfort defeated the Lady Bulldogs in Brady on Friday, 9-1, behind 18 strikeouts behind pitcher Emma Wardlaw as the Deer began the second round of 5-3A.
In their first meeting, the Deer ran away with a 17-0 victory in three innings and Wardlaw has been dominant regardless of the score.
Over two games against Brady, Wardlaw has faced 30 batters and struck out 27 of them. She has 531 career strikeouts as of this moment, which is likely a school record but was getting checked on by the Comfort coaches.
CHS is 5-1 in district and 13-11 overall. The Deer were at home for two games this week and hosted Llano on Monday and play Florence Thursday.
Comfort scored single runs in the first and third innings and jumped out to a 2-0 lead. The Deer finished strong and plated 2 in the fifth and sixth frames and scored 3 in the top of the seventh.
Comfort finished with 8 hits and were led by Kendyl Rust who tripled and hit 2 singles, scored twice and brought in a run, while Morgan Hansen knocked out 2 doubles and a single, walked, picked up an RBI and scored 2 runs.
Hope Van Geffen walked and scored, Emma Wardlaw recorded 2 singles and collected 3 RBI, Kaydence Stehling walked and scored, while Jordan Judkins walked twice and scored once and Kippy Sterling plated a run.
Wardlaw threw all 7 innings and tossed 96 pitches. She scattered 4 hits, 1 run, no walks and struck out 18. The other three outs were ground outs.
Gracie Galindo pitched well for Brady as well despite the loss and fanned 12 batters to give the pitchers a combined 30 Ks in Friday’s game.
