Boerne High closed out the first round of district softball with a perfect record after the Lady Hounds trounced the Lady Texans on Friday, 14-0.
The Lady Hounds are 20-8 this year and improved to 5-0 in district. They began the second round this week and hosted Bandera on Monday before visiting Davenport on Thursday.
Boerne had a strong start to Friday’s game and scored 9 runs in the first inning to leave little doubt. BHS hit 2 doubles, 4 singles, had a hit batter, used a fielder’s choice, and 2 errors to inflict its damage as the first six batters reached base before Wimberley could get an out in that first frame.
The Lady Hounds added to its lead in the second with 5 more runs to make it 14-0 after two. Included in that second inning was a home run by Taryn Madlock.
BHS didn’t score after that and the Texans didn’t score at all after only managing 3 hits off Boerne starter Ava Rodriguez, who didn’t give up a walk or run and struck out 8 batters on 87 pitches.
Besides her home run, Madlock also singled, drove in 3 runs and scored 3 times, Ava Nieto hit 2 singles, scored 2 runs and picked up 2 RBI, Taylor Wilson doubled and singled, pushed in 3 runs and scored once, Rodriguez helped her cause with 2 RBI, Ava Renteria doubled, hit 2 RBI and scored a run, Heidi Maytum and Maddie Vasquez plated one run each, Isa Renteria scored 2 runs and picked up an RBI, Riley Partin singled and scored 2 runs and Bre Krause plated a run for the Lady Greyhounds in last Friday’s game.
