SAN ANTONIO – Boerne High recorded its fourth straight shutout in girls soccer, with the last two coming in the playoffs.
On Tuesday, the Lady Greyhounds didn’t let the Rockets from Kennedy leave the launching pad as they blasted them, 7-0, in the second-round match at Comalander Stadium in San Antonio.
In their previous match, Boerne shutout Georgetown Gateway 8-0 in the first round of the playoffs. They also won their last two district matches via the shutout.
During that time, Boerne has tallied 21 goals, while not giving up a single goal.
“We’re playing really well offensively and defensively, hopefully we keep that streak going,” Boerne coach Jeremy Shannon said.
BHS improves to 23-2 and faced Burnet in the third round Friday in a battle of top-5 teams in the state. The Bulldogs are ranked No. 4 and Boerne is No. 5 (TGCA) heading into the match and Shannon said they needed to be ready.
“We’ve got to focus on the game at hand,” he said. “We’ve really got to get ourselves ready for (Burnet), it’s going to be a good game.”
In Tuesday’s match, Hannah Bowen finished with a hat trick and scored 3 goals, while Madeline Davis added 2 goals and Avery Ukeiley and Sadie Parker both netted single goals.
One of the Davis goals came from 45 yards out on a free kick. Davis blasted the ball high into the air and it dropped in just under the cross bar. The senior said she was trying to make it into the goal.
“That’s my sweet spot, I make a lot of goals from the deep end on the field,” she said. “I practice a lot from that range, I definitely was trying to get it in the top corner and that’s what happened.”
In Tuesday’s match, Taylor Hudson came up with 2 assists, while Kylie Combs and Kailey Stringfellow both recorded 1 assist each.
Kinsley Sawyer was in goal for the Lady Greyhounds.
