Two big innings helped the Boerne Champion softball team defeat Pieper Tuesday night at Charger Field.

Champion scored 6 runs in the second and 7 in the fifth on its way to a 14-4 victory over the Warriors.

The Lady Chargers are 3-2 in district and improved to 9-9 overall.

Pieper was steady and scored runs in the first three innings but only one run per frame. They added a single run in the fifth to get their four runs.

Champion added its runs in bunches and after falling behind 2-0, exploded for 6 in the bottom of the second and never trailed from there.

The Chargers were up 6-3 after three and then Pieper scored a run in the fifth to make it 6-4, but Champion answered with 7 runs in the bottom of the fifth for the 13-4 lead. They had a runner on base and could have ended it there, but the Warriors took the game to the sixth where the Chargers did end it.

After Pieper didn’t score in the top of the sixth, Champion pushed in the run needed to kick in the mercy rule in the bottom half of the frame.

The Chargers knocked out 12 hits and picked up 11 RBI. Ava Trevino hit a triple and a single, Riley Murrish doubled, hit 2 singles, drove in 3 runs and scored once, Abby Brehmer doubled and scored, Emily Young collected 3 RBI and scored a run, Kassidy Kureska doubled and scored, Mylie Parker singled and scored, Lilly Ritchie knocked out 2 singles, drove in 2 runs and scored a run, Alison Kory singled, scored twice and picked up an RBI, Madison Hall singled and plated 2 runs, Dakota Salazar singled, pushed in 2 runs and scored twice, while Jaycee Bendele touched home plate twice.

Trevino picked up the win on 99 pitches and went 5 innings. She gave up 4 hits, 2 earned runs, struck out 3 and walked 3. Parker finished out the game and yielded a hit, no runs and fanned 1 in one inning of work.
