While Boerne High softball took care of Davenport, the Greyhound baseball squad did the same thing to the Davenport hardball team just a few feet away Tuesday in Boerne as both BHS teams hosted the Wolves.
Boerne almost run ruled the Wolves on the baseball diamond but it ended up going the full seven innings before the Greyhounds posted an 11-2 win.
The Hounds improve to 17-2 overall and are 4-0 in district. They visited Wimberley Friday to close out the first round and play Bandera twice next week.
Boerne took control early in Tuesday’s contest with 5 runs in the first, another in the second and 5 more in the third for the 11-0 lead. The Wolves added a couple of runs to keep the mercy rule from kicking in and it ended up going all seven after the Hounds didn’t score past the third inning.
BHS finished with 7 hits including two doubles from Brooks Perez, who also scored a run. Cam Johnson hit 2 singles, scored twice and drove in 3 runs, Jace Preston took 2 walks, picked up 2 RBI and scored a run, Hutson Hendrix singled and collected 2 RBI, Hudson McNew drove in a run, Dylan Perez scored twice, Caleb Cloutier was walked three times, singled and scored, and Walker Hill singled, walked and scored 2 runs.
Xander Cloudy went 6 innings and tossed 90 pitches to get the win. He gave up 3 hits, no earned runs or walks and struck out 6.
Jake Wright threw in the seventh and needed just 7 pitches to retire the side. He struck out 1 and didn’t give up a walk, hit or run.
