Boerne High opened district 27-4A softball action last Friday afternoon in Bandera and breeze by the Bulldogs, 14-0, in five innings of work.
The Lady Hounds improved to 16-8 overall and start league play at 1-0. They hosted Davenport on Tuesday and visit Canyon Lake Friday.
Boerne scored in three of the five frames played Friday and jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first. BHS had a big inning in the second and pushed in 7 runs, including home runs by Isa Renteria and Ava Nieto for the 10-0 lead.
It stayed that way until the fifth when the Lady Hounds tacked on 4 more runs to make it 14-0.
While the Boerne offense knocked out 11 hits, Bandera only had 1 hit against Greyhound pitcher Ava Rodriguez, who struck out 12 and didn’t give up a walk. The Bulldogs’ only hit came on a bunt single in the bottom of the fourth.
Nieto homered and singled, picked up 2 RBI, scored 3 runs and took a walk, Renteria homered and collected an RBI, Cameron Cooper singled and scored twice, Bre Krause plated 2 runs, Taylor Wilson walked twice and scored twice, Maddie Vasquez singled and scored, Taryn Madlock singled, scored and pushed in a run, Rodriguez doubled, hit 3 singles, knocked in 4 runs and scored a run, Ryleigh Hastings singled and picked up an RBI, Jess Aguirre doubled and pushed in 2 runs, while Riley Partin scored a run.
