The Boerne High baseball team resumed district play Tuesday with a road trip to Fredericksburg and it turned into a productive outing for the Greyhounds after they beat the Battlin’ Billies, 8-0.
The Hounds improved to 15-2 overall and 2-0 in district. They continued district play Thursday against Canyon Lake and won that contest, 2-1. For more on that game, see the Wednesday online edition of the Boerne Star.
The BHS bats produced runs in four of the seven innings and two Greyhound pitchers combined for a one-hitter against Fred.
Boerne got things going right away and scored a run in the first frame after Jace Preston doubled in the top of the inning to drive in Riley Pechacek who reached on a walk.
It stayed that way until the third when the Hounds loaded the bases and pushed in two more runs.
Cam Johnson walked and moved to third after Preston singled and Hutson Hendrix walked.
With the bases juiced, Hudson McNew singled and brought in Johnson. With the bases still loaded, Cale Blalock walked and brought in Preston to make it 3-0.
In the fifth, Johnson and Hendrix scored again after Johnson singled, Hendrix walked and Xander Cloudy walked.
McNew doubled and drove in Johnson and Hendrix for two more runs to bump Boerne’s lead to 5-0.
From there, the Hounds picked up 3 runs in the top of the seventh to blow it open.
BHS opened up the frame with three consecutive singles from Perez, Pechacek and Johnson. Johnson’s hit brought in Perez, while Pechacek later scored on a Hendrix fielder’s choice and then Landon Lestourgeon grounded out but brought in Johnson for the 8-0 lead.
Fredericksburg took a few walks but was held without a hit until the bottom of the sixth frame.
Boerne finished with 10 hits, including doubles from Preston and McNew.
Johnson hit 2 singles, scored 3 runs and picked up an RBI, Preston added a single to his double, took 2 walks and drove in a run and scored once, Pechacek singled, walked and scored twice, Hendrix finished with 3 walks, scored a run and picked up an RBI, Cloudy walked 2 times, Lestourgeon drove in a run, McNew added 2 singles to his double and collected 3 RBI, Blalock walked and had an RBI and Walker Hill singled.
Cloudy went 5.2 innings on the hill and gave up 1 hit, 3 walks and fanned 8, while Lestourgeon closed out the game on the bump and didn’t give up hit, walk or run.
