Boerne Champion played a pair of baseball games earlier this week with a league game and a non-district contest and split the two.
The Chargers won their district contest on Tuesday over Wagner, 13-0, but dropped their non-district tilt on Wednesday to rival Alamo Heights by a run, 10-9.
The Chargers were back on the field against the Thunderbirds on Friday as they continued district action. For results of Wednesday game against the Mules and Friday’s 26-5A tilt with Wagner, look in the Wednesday online edition of the Boerne Star.
They’ll play Veterans Memorial twice next week and host Tuesday’s game when they return from spring break.
The Chargers did most of its damage in one inning after they exploded for 11 runs in the top of the third against the T-Birds during Tuesday’s road game and added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
Champion sent 16 batters to the plate in that third frame and the big hit came from Rowdy Miller who knocked out a 2-run homer.
The Chargers finished with the Miller home run, a double from Jordan Ballin, 6 singles, 2 hit batters, 2 errors and a fielder’s choice to score its 11 runs.
Cam Logan hit 3 singles, drove in 3 runs and crossed home plate once, Ethan Harrison hit 2 singles, picked up an RBI and scored, Wyatt Chandler singled, scored and picked up an RBI, Andrew Frei walked and scored a run, Garland Whitehead recorded 2 singles and scored twice, Robbie Vela took a walk, while Goldberg and Grable were both hit by pitches.
Miller picked up the win on only 59 pitches and threw 4 innings. He gave up a hit and a walk and struck out 2, while Harrison tossed in the fifth and needed just 8 pitches to retire the side after he fanned 2 and didn’t give up a hit or a walk.
