The Comfort softball team broke open a tied ball game with two runs in the top of the eighth inning and then held on for the 7-5 win over Llano during Monday’s district game.
Comfort improved to 10-10 this season and plays again Tuesday with a trip to Florence.
The Deer held a 4-1 lead after five innings and then scored another in the top of the seventh but the Lady Jackets rallied with 4 runs in its final two at bats.
Monday’s contest was tied at 5-5 after seven innings, sending it to the eighth where a throwing error allowed two runs to score for the Deer.
Comfort used a hit batter and a throwing error on the next batter to score both its runs in the eighth and take the lead. Once it went to the bottom of the frame, Llano went down in order with a pop up and two ground outs against pitcher Emma Wardlaw.
Wardlaw went all 8 innings and threw 111 pitches to get the win. She yielded 6 hits, 5 runs, 1 walk and fanned 8.
Comfort finished with 10 hits, including 2 doubles and 2 singles from Kendyl Rust, Morgan Hansen hit 2 singles and scored, Wardlaw singled and took 2 walks, Kippy Sterling singled, Hope Van Geffen doubled and scored and Layla Castro doubled.
Rust, Hansen, Wardlaw, Van Geffen and Castro all picked up RBI.
