BOERNE – A former coach at Boerne Gymnastics charged with indecency with a child is no longer behind bars after posting a $250,000 bond, according to court records.
Michael Spiller left the Kendall County Jail Thursday under sex-offender bond conditions signed by Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Michele Van Stavern.
Under those stipulations, Spiller will be required to see a county probation officer at least once a month and will have to pay $40 monthly for supervision fees.
In addition, he will not be able to have any form of contact – directly or indirectly –with minors. Spiller is subject to GPS monitoring and surrendered his passport.
He will not be allowed to visit fast-food restaurants, parks, playgrounds, anyplace a school function is being held, shopping malls, video arcades or movie theaters. Further, he is prohibited from being within 500 yards of a school, day care center, park or generally anywhere children might gather.
As is typical with most bond conditions, Spiller is forbidden to consume or possess any alcohol or drugs. Sex-offender conditions also require that he cannot possess or view any pornographic material and “shall not access any pornographic material in any manner whatsoever.”
Spiller also has a curfew 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
The former coach, who has been indicted, awaits trial. An indictment does not mean a person is guilty of a crime, only that there is sufficient evidence to hold a trial.
As first reported by the Star, Spiller, 75, was arrested Nov. 18 on a charge of indecency with a child after a woman accused him of displaying his genitals and wrongfully touching her in 2001 and 2002 at a camp Spiller hosted at Boerne Gymnastics.
He is no longer employed by the gym.
Spiller was released on a $150,000 bond from the Kendall County Jail the same morning, but promptly booked again after prosecutors arrested him on a second related charge based on the same victim’s outcry, officials said.
