For the fourth year in a row, the Boerne High boys basketball team is advancing to the fourth round or regional semifinals in the 4A state playoffs.

This year’s group of Greyhounds punched their ticket to the fourth round or regional semifinals by defeating La Vernia Tuesday night at Judson, 50-26.

Included in Boerne’s playoff run the last four seasons has been two regional championships.

The Hounds will look to make it three regional titles in a row when they head to Kingsville this weekend.

BHS played Somerset in the regional semifinals Friday and the winner of that contest plays the winner of the Stafford – Pleasanton game on Saturday for the regional title and the right to go to state.

Boerne (30-5) was up 18-4 at the end of one quarter and then outscored the Bears in the second, 9-5, for the 27-9 lead.

The Greyhounds had a good third quarter and tallied 16 points, while holding the Bears to 6 for the 42-15 lead. Boerne opened up a 30-point advantage early in the fourth at 45-15 but the Bears didn’t go down without a fight and scored 11 in the fourth to make it their only quarter in double digits, while the Hounds dropped in 8 to seal up the win.

Trevor Agarwal had the hot hand from the outside and knocked down several 3-pointers and finished with 20 points to lead the team.
