The Boerne Champion girls soccer squad took a tough-luck loss on Tuesday when they tangled with New Braunfels Canyon.
Champion outshot the Cougarettes, 19-15, but still suffered a 1-0 loss at the hands of NBC.
The Lady Chargers are 7-9-1 overall and 5-4-1 in district. They played Kerrville Tivy on Friday and host Pieper on Tuesday. After this week, there are only three matches left in the regular season starting with Pieper as the Lady Chargers fight for a playoff spot.
In Tuesday’s match, Champion finished with 19 shots and 12 shots on goal, while NB Canyon recorded 15 shots with 10 of those shots on goal.
The Cougarettes scored early in the match that turned into a defensive struggle. NB Canyon tallied a goal at the 10:35 mark of the opening half and then neither team could scratch for any offense after that.
Lola Vaughan was in goal for the Chargers and came up with 9 saves.
Tuesday’s win also gives Canyon the season sweep over the Lady Chargers after they beat them in the first round.
