Charger track team wins boys, girls divisions at NS

The Champion varsity track teams were entered at the Northside ISD meet recently to open the 2023 season and the Chargers dominated by taking first place on both the boys and girls side.

The Champion varsity track teams were entered at the Northside ISD meet recently to open the 2023 season and the Chargers dominated by taking first place on both the boys and girls side.

In the second meet of the season, Champion, along with Boerne High, were both entered in last Saturday’s Boerne ISD meet, while the second BISD meet is scheduled for this Thursday.

RESULTS

Varsity Boys

The Champion boys tallied 228 points for first to beat 2nd-place Brandeis (164) and 3rd-place O’Connor (95) by a wide margin.

Those Chargers who scored points were Corbin Mitchell and Luke Rossi after they both clocked in at 12.10 in the 100 to tie for 2nd.

Arlis Adickes was also 2nd in the 200 with a 23.26, Robert Wegleitner came in 5th in the 400 at 56.24, Caleb DeHart placed 5th in the 800 with a 2:09.49 and Charlie Houck finished 6th after clocking in at 2:09.67.

Luis Tovar took 2nd in the 1600 with a time of 4:34 and Charlie Houck was 4th in 4:51.

Ben Matamoros placed 4th in the 3200 with a time of 10:35 and Patrick Thornton was 5th in 10:38.

Champion had three finish in the top 5 in the 110 hurdles after Ben Blomqvist was 2nd in 15.49, Brandon Karbowski placed 4th with a 17.94 and Grant Menzies was 5th after clocking in at 18.23.

Blomqvist won the 300 hurdles after turning in a 40.82, Menzies was 4th in 45.19 and Karbowski was 5th with a 46.17.

The Chargers won all three relays after Ranger Lewis, Sawyer Bolli, Corbin Mitchell and Arlis Adickes teamed up to win the 4x100 with a time of 43.92, while Lewis, Bolli, Mitchell and Adickes were 1st in the 4x200 with a 1:32, while Lewis Blomqvist, Bolli and Luke Rossi were 1st in the 4x400 after recording a time of 3:30.

In field events, Blomqvist was 2nd in the long jump with a distance of 20-8, Connor Warzecha took 1st in the shot put with a toss of 48-1, Riley Wampler was 2nd at 47-8.5 and Nico Lopez came in 5th with a throw of 41-4.

Warzecha also finished 2nd in the discus with a distance of 1478, Aiden Harris was 3rd with a 147-1 and Wampler came in 4th at 146-8.

Hayden Brace finished 2nd in the triple jump with a leap of 42-1.5, Blomqvist won the high jumped after he cleared 6-2, while Griffin Jones was 3rd at 5-8 and Robert Wegleitner came in 4th at 5-8.

Brooks Jones won the pole vault after clearing 13-0, Luke Rossiwas2ndat13-0andLandon Kolacny came in 6th after he went 11-0.

Varsity Girls

The Lady Chargers recorded 184 points for 1st to top Brandeis (156) and O’Connor (92).

Mariela Gonzalez won the 100 dash with a time of 12.97 and Madison Meinke was 6th with a 13.80, while Vanesa Gonzalez took 1st in the 200 after clocking in at 25.64.

Kendall Fallon finished 4th in the 800 with a 2:22 and Emma Rice was 5th in 2:26.52, while Elizabeth Leachman won the 1600 after clocking in at 5:14, Josey Whitaker came in 2nd at 5:25 and Rice was 5th with a time of 5:41.

Jenna Koepke recorded a time of 12:04 for 4th in the 3200 and Grace Flores came in 5th with a 12:10.

Larysa Green was 5th in the 100 hurdles with an 18.97 and 5th in the 300 hurdles with a time of 56.01, while Kendall Fallon captured 1st in the 300 hurdles after turning in a time of 48.53.

The Champion girls won two of three relay events after the 4x100 and 4x200 were both 1st.

Madison Meinke, Vanesa Gonzalez, Mariela Gonzalez and Erin Fallon teamed up for 1st in the 4x100 with a 49.40, while Meinke, Fallon and both Gonzalez girls combined for 1st in the 4x200 with a 1:44.

Carsyn Bradley, Erin Fallon, Reagan Burkey and Kendall Fallon came in 2nd in the 4x400 with a time of 4:14.

In field events, Kendall Fallon finished 4th in the long jump with a distance of 16-2.5, while Hailee Goodwin was 2nd in the shot put with a toss of 31-2.5 and Lorena Barreiro Bidot was 5th at 29-0.

Goodwin came in 2nd in the discus with a toss of 96-3 and Cameron Wampler placed 4th with a throw of 94-3.

Carsyn Bradley finished 2nd in the triple jump with a measurement of 32-5 and Erin Martin cleared 4-8 in the high jump for 2nd.

In the pole vault, Peyton Smith won the event after she cleared 9-6 on few attempts, while Talia Venner and Vivian Cardenas tied for 3rd in the pole vault after they both went 9-0.
