The Boerne Champion baseball team was entered in the Northside ISD tourney where they finished with a record of 3-1.
The Chargers won their first three games of the event before falling in the final game on Saturday by just a run.
Champion, 3-2 overall, is off until this weekend when they play in the Comal ISD Tournament that starts Thursday and continues through Saturday. They’ll host a few games in the tourney.
The Chargers opened with a 5-0 win over Warren last Thursday. After a 1-0 lead in the first, the Chargers pushed in 4 runs in the fourth.
They had 7 hits including doubles by Evan Kuhl and Robbie Vela. Kuhl swung a hot bat and also knocked out 3 more singles to go with his double, pushed in a run and scored once.
Jordan Ballin singled and picked up an RBI, while Cam Logan singled and scored. Vela picked up an RBI and scored, while Ethan Harrison scored.
Vela went the distance on the mound and scattered 3 hits, fanned 5 and walked 3 to earn the win.
On Friday, the Chargers defeated Sotomayor, 10-2, and took advantage of 7 walks.
Champion scored in bunches and pushed in 6 runs in the third and 5 in the fifth.
Braden Cain and Ethan Harrison doubled, with both batters pushing in 2 runs each. Harrison also walked and scored twice, while Cam Logan singled.
Drennon Cunningham, Sam Miller Wyatt Chandler, Andrew Frei and Evan Kuhl all scored once, and Gage Goldberg plated 2 runs.
Jacob Schwope went 3 innings and Nate Mayo tossed the final two frames. Schwope was the winner and gave up 2 hits, no runs 3 walks and fanned 2, while Mayo yielded 2 hits, 1 run, sat down 5 and didn’t walk a batter.
On Friday night, the Chargers sacked Stevens, 7-2.
After a 2-2 tie in the first, Champion closed out the game with 4 runs in the fourth and another in the fifth.
The Chargers had 10 hits, all singles after Evan Kuhl, Jordan Ballin, Gage Goldberg, Cam Logan all knocked out 2 hits, while Jared Wingo and Rowdy Miller both had 1 hit each.
Kuhl and Ballin both scored twice, while Logan, Wingo and Wyatt Chandler all scored once.
Ballin, Goldberg, Logan, Wingo and Ethan Harrison all pushed in single runs.
Rowdy Miller went 4 innings on the bump and picked up the win after he gave up 3 hits, 3 runs, walked 4 and fanned 4.
Andrew Paulson threw an inning and walked 2 but didn’t give up a hit or run.
Champion closed out the tourney on Saturday with a 4-3 setback to Clark. Single runs in the fifth and sixth gave the Cougars the win even though the Chargers outhit them, 6-2.
Jordan Ballin doubled, scored and pushed in a run, Evan Kuhl hit 2 singles and scored once, Gage Goldberg singled and scored, while Cam Logan, Rowdy Miller and Jared Wingo all singled.
Aidan Smith, Jackson Melanson and Andrew Paulson all tossed in the game. Paulson went 3 innings and gave up a 1, 3 walks and fanned 2, Melanson yielded a hit and a run to go with two strikeouts and Paulson gave up 1 run and 2 walks.
