Chargers girls start second round of district soccer

The Boerne Champion girls soccer team began the second round of district action Tuesday with a 6-1 victory over Wagner.

Champion improves to 6-8-1 overall and is 4-3-1 in district. They tangled with Veterans Memorial on Friday and then played New Braunfels Canyon on Tuesday.

The Thunderbirds only had one goal on Tuesday but they were on the board first for the 1-0 lead. Wagner then helped the Chargers with an own goal to tie it up at 1-1 and from there, Champion took the lead at 2-1 with an Ashlyn Plank goal on the Addison Hayes assist.

In the second half, Plank scored another goal on the Addison Huber assist to make it 3-1. After that, Emma Mae Dixon knocked in two straight goals and then Dixon assisted on a Plank goal midway through the second half to help Plank record the hat trick.

Goalie Lola Vaughan came up with 3 saves as the defense only allowed 4 shots, while the Charger offense tallied 38 shots, with 28 shots on goal.
