AUSTIN – Boerne Champion earned two state medals at last Saturday’s 5A state swim and dive meet in Austin, with one of the medals being gold and the other silver.
The Chargers just missed out on a few others as they had several swimmers/ divers place in the top five. The result was a 5th-place showing for the Charger boys team and a 7th place finish for the girls.
Georgetown won the boys meet with 200 points, while the Chargers with 5th with 137.5 points. Cedar Park won the girls meet with 194 points, while the Lady Chargers were 7th with 104 points.
RESULTS
The first medal by the Chargers came from the 200-yard freestyle relay after Griff Orloff, Will Harrison, Matthew Jeffery and Bexon Harrison finished 2nd to pick up silver medals with a time of 1:24.96 for 34 team points. The firstplace time came from an El Paso team that recorded a 1:24.83.
Orloff earned the second medal of the day after he tied Jackson Armour in the 100-yard breaststroke after the two touched the wall with exact times of 56.37 to each earn gold medals.
Orloff added 18.5 points to the team total with his gold-medal performance, while Jeffery won the consolation race for 9th overall after clocking in at 59.55 for 9 team points.
In the first event of the day, the Chargers boys just missed out on another medal after they were 4th in the 200-yard medley relay.
Will Harrison, Griff Orloff, Bexon Harrison and Matthew Jeffery combined for a 1:35.61 and 30 team points.
In the girls 200-yard Individual Medley, Kate Deykin was 10th with a time of 2:10.80 for 7 team points, while Cora Skoog placed 7th in the 50-yard freestyle after clocking in at 24.30 for 12 points and Regan Garcia finished 12th in the event with a 24.51 for 5 points.
Bexon Harrison recorded a 20.84 in the boys 50 free to pick up 13 points, while Colin Breuer was so close to a medal after he came in 4th in the 1-meter diving for 15 points.
After his final dive, Breuer briefly moved into third place but with three divers left, the next diver passed him up and reclaimed third and moved Breuer back to fourth.
The Charger junior finished just out of the medals after scoring 424.75 points. The third-place dive, Jake Bigler, of Magnolia scored 432.60 points to beat Breuer by 7.85 points.
Bexon Harrison was close to another medal after he was 5th in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 50.82 for 14 team points, while in the girls 100-yard freestyle, Cora Skoog placed 6th after touching the wall in 52.60 for 13 points and Regan Garcia was 14th in a time of 54.00 for 3 points.
In the girls 200-yard freestyle relay, Kate Deykin, Cameron Kellogg, Regan Garcia and Cora Skoog finished 5th after they combined for a time of 1:39.75 for 28 team points. Deykin also picked up team points in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.28 for 11th place and 6 points.
In the final event of the day, the Lady Chargers missed out on another medal by half a second after they were 4th in the 400yard freestyle relay.
Kate Deykin, Cameron Kellogg, Regan Garcia and Cora Skoog combined for a time of 3:34.61 for 30 team points. The 3rd-place team clocked in at 3:34.20.
In the final event of the day, the boys 400-yard free, William Tolar, Will Harrison, Matthew Jeffery and Griff Orloff placed 15th with a time of 3:15.12 to pick up 4 team points and round out the scoring at 137.5 points.
