By the time a team gets to the third round of the playoffs, the games are supposed to get harder but so far, the Boerne girls basketball team hasn’t really been tested.
After winning its first two playoff games by a combined 88 points, the Lady Greyhounds picked up another lopsided win Monday in Georgetown when they defeated a solid Navasota team by more than 20 points, 54-33.
BHS improves to 33-1 and advances to this week- end’s regional tournament in Kingsville where they need two wins to advance to the 4A state tournament. They play in the regional semis or fourth round on Friday.
The Lady Hounds took control early and held a 16-4 lead by the end of the first quarter with Averi Aaron scoring 8 points, Jamie Ruede 6 and Abby Smith 2.
It was almost an exact repeat in the second period as the Lady Hounds held Navasota to just 4 points again and outscored them 14-4 to take a 30-8 lead into halftime.
Navasota played better in the third quarter and dropped in a dozen, but BHS had its best scoring quarter of the night with 17 points and opened up a 47-20 lead going into the final stanza.
Coach Ruede started removing starters in the fourth quarter and the Lady Hounds only scored 7 points and were outscored by Navasota, 13-7, but the Boerne girls still won by a comfortable margin.
