The Boerne High softball team was entered in its first tourney of the year last weekend at the Comal ISD Tournament where they posted a record of 4-2.
It was a 30-team tournament and the Lady Greyhounds finished in third place. Boerne High is 5-2 overall and hosted Steele on Tuesday before playing in the Dripping Springs Tournament this weekend where they drew a tough bracket.
RESULTS
BHS opened with a 4-2 win over Buda Johnson. Boerne was down 2-1 until a three-run 5th frame gave them the final lead of the game.
Ava Nieto hit a 2-run double in the 5th to take the lead after they had tied it with a Taryn Madlock single.
Nieto hit 2 doubles and collected 2 RBI, while Heidi Maytum, Ava Rodriguez and Madlock all singled.
Cameron Cooper took 3 walks and scored twice, while Madlock and Jess Aguirre both scored one run. Madlock and Maytum picked up single RBI.
Rodriguez went all 5 innings in the circle and gave up 4 runs, 2 hits, 2 walks and fanned 4.
Up next, BHS picked up a shutout win over Azle, 6-0. The Hounds scored 2 in the first, followed by 3 runs in the fourth and another in the fifth.
They finished with 7 hits, including doubles from Taryn Madlock, Heidi Maytum and Ava Rodriguez, while Cameron Cooper added 2 hits and Madlock scored 3 runs. Six different players scored in the game.
Isa Renteria threw all 6 innings and yielded just 1 hit, fanned 7 and walked 3.
Boerne returned on Friday where the team recorded its biggest win of the year so far at 12-1 behind 8 hits.
BHS pushed across 2 runs in the first, 6 in the second and 4 in the third vs. Victoria East. Ava Rodriguez hit a home run and 2 singles, picked up 2 RBI and scored once, while Taryn Madlock, Ava Nieto, Riley Partin and Isa Renteria all slapped out doubles.
Jess Aguirre, Cameron Cooper and Partin all scored twice.
Rodriguez also earned the win from the circle and gave up 3 hits and struck out 1.
Later Friday, the Lady Hounds faced off with NB Canyon and were caged by the Cougarettes, 5-0, for its first loss of the year and the tournament.
NBC outhit BHS, 7-4. Heidi Maytum hit a double and a single, while Cameron Cooper and Ava Rodriguez both singled.
Ava Rodriguez and Isa Renteria both pitched in the game and gave up a combined 7 hits. BHS returned on Saturday and edged Dripping Springs, 8-6 after outhitting the Tigers, 9-6.
Taylor Wilson hit double and a grand slam in the third frame to finish with 5 RBI in the game and she also scored a run.
Ava Renteria tripled and Ava Nieto doubled as Nieto had 3 total hits, 2 RBI and scored twice, while Taryn Madlock picked up 2 RBI and Heidi Maytum scored twice.
Ava Rodriguez was the winning pitcher and gave up 6 hits, 3 earned runs, struck out 6 and walked 1.
In its last game on Saturday, Boerne fell to Abilene 4-2 in a game that went extra innings. It was tied 1-1 and then in the extra frame, Abilene pushed in 3 runs and Boerne 1. It was a game where they put a runner at second with no outs in the extra frame.
Boerne had 4 hits in the game, doubles from Taylor Wilson and Taryn Madlock, while Wilson and Cameron Cooper both singled with Madlock and Isa Renteria scoring single runs.
Renteria went the distance in the circle and tossed 104 pitches, giving up 5 hits, 1 earned run, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts.
