YOAKUM – Boerne’s second- round playoff contest against Sealy turned into the Jamie Ruede and Averi Aaron show as the duo propelled the Lady Greyhounds to a 56-27 victory.
BHS (32-1) plays in the third round next week against the winner of the Navasota and La Vernia match up.
Ruede and Aaron tallied 42 of the team’s 56 points in Thursday’s win at Yoakum.
Whenever the Tigers were in a zone, Ruede was left open and made Sealy pay with her 3-point shooting. Whenever the Tigers switched out of zone and went to man-to-man defense then Aaron made them pay in the paint.
Aaron and Ruede scored all 18 of the Boerne points in the first quarter. Ruede knocked down three straight 3-pointers to start the second for five 3s in the half and Aaron scored 4 in the quarter as the two combined for 13 of the team’s 16 points.
Jenna Ruede was the only other BHS player to score in the first half when she drained a 3. Jamie Ruede finished with 17 first-half points and Aron tallied 14 for 31 of their points as Boerne took a 34-14 lead into the halftime break.
Other Greyhounds got involved in the second half as Abby Smith and Chloe Donnell combined for 5 points and Aaron added 4 more points as the Lady Hounds won the quarter, 9-8.
Boerne finished out the contest by taking the final period, 13-5, as a few more Lady Hounds tacked on points.
Addison Pape and Taegan King got involved, while Jamie Ruede added 5 more points, Aaron had 2 and Donnell scored 2 more.
For the game, Jamie Ruede finished with 22 points, Aaron scored 20, Donnell tallied 5, Jenna Ruede added 3, while Smith, King and Pape all finished with 2.
