The Boerne High softball team opened its season with a road trip to Pearsall on Tuesday where they picked up a 10-3 victory.
BHS starts the year at 1-0 and is scheduled to play in the Comal ISD Tournament this weekend.
The Lady Hounds knocked out 13 hits in Tuesday’s victory and pulled away from the Braves starting in the third inning. It was tied after two frames at 2-2, but the Boerne girls scored 7 runs in the third thanks to two homers and added another run in the fourth for the 10-2 advantage.
Pearsall fought to the end and pushed in a single run in the 5th frame but that’s as close as they came.
In the third, Ava Nieto blasted a 3-run homer and Heidi Maytum knocked out a 2-run shot as part of the 7-run inning as the Hounds sent 11 batters to the plate.
Nieto finished with the homer and a double, 2 runs scored and 4 RBI, while Maytum collected 2 RBI and scored a run with her homer.
Cameron Cooper doubled and pushed in 2 runs, Crissy Vanstavern singled, Taylor Wilson doubled and singled and scored once, Jess Aguirre plated a run, Ava Rodriguez singled, Taryn Madlock singled, Ava Renteria doubled, picked up 2 RBI and scored twice and Riley Partin hit 2 singles, stole 2 bases and scored twice.
Rodriguez threw all 7 frames and gave up 7 hits, 3 runs, struck out 6 and walked 1.
