Boerne Champion’s postseason run ended a lot sooner than they would have liked after the Lady Chargers were knocked out in the first round of the 5A girls basketball playoffs Monday night.
Champion tangled with Liberty Hill in Dripping Springs and the Lady Panthers just had too much height and guard play for the Lady Chargers.
Liberty Hill won Monday’s contest, 59-33, and ends Champion’s year at 28-7.
The Panthers were only leading 11-8 after one and then Liberty Hill took a 24-15 lead into halftime.
The lead stayed at single digits until late in the third when the Panthers bumped its advantage to double digits, and it never dipped below that the rest of the way.
Liberty Hill was up 37-24 after three and then pulled away with a big fourth quarter. They outscored Champion in the second half, 35-18, to seal the win.
The Lady Chargers will graduate six seniors, Olivia Keilman, Madyson Marquard, Addison Hankins, Hudson Lonsdale, Alivia Gonzales and Christine McGinn.
Adriana Barreiro led the team with 11 points, Lonsdale scored 7, Keilman tallied 6, Bralyn Gault and Grace Erbstoesser both netted 3, Kindle Fallon had 2 and Madyson Marquard hit a free throw.
Comfort Deer
The Comfort lost on Monday night as well after they were defeated by Wall in Sonora, 61-17. For more on the Deer see the weekend Boerne Star.
