Lady Hounds win two to set up showdown with Fred

Boerne High picked up two wins last week against Navarro and Canyon Lake to remain unbeaten in 27-4A girls basketball and set up a showdown with Fredericksburg on Tuesday.

Boerne High picked up two wins last week against Navarro and Canyon Lake to remain unbeaten in 27-4A girls basketball and set up a showdown with Fredericksburg on Tuesday.

Tuesday’s contest between the Lady Hounds (29-1) and Battlin’ Billies (30-3) was for first place in the district. Last year the team’s split their two league games and were co-champs.

BHS entered Tuesday’s contest at 11-0 in district and Fred was 10-1 with its only loss to Boerne in the first round.ALady Hounds win gives them the title outright but a Billies victory ties the two rivals and makes them co-champs once again.

Vs. Canyon Lake

Boerne was at Canyon Lake last Friday and won 73-25.

The Lady Hounds were ahead 30-7 after one quarter and then had a strong third quarter, 24-2, to take control of the game.

They were leading 39-15 at halftime and won the second half, 34-10.

Abby Smith and Averi Aaron both tallied 19 points, Jamie Ruede added 18, Chloe Donnell netted 5, Mickena Randle finished with 4, Sushanna Cobb recorded 3, Liz Fox and Savannah Salinas both chipped in with 2 and Taegan King hit a free throw.

Aaron grabbed 6 rebounds, while Jamie Ruede dished out 8 assists and came up with 10 steals to almost make it a triple double.

Vs. Navarro

The BHS girls hosted Navarro on Thursday in a game moved from Tuesday because of the weather. Boerne won by 20 points, 48-28.

It was a slow start for both teams and the Lady Hounds were only leading at the end of the first quarter, 7-5.

Things weren’t much different in the second period and BHS and the Panthers both scored 9 to give the Lady Hounds a 16-14 lead at halftime.

Boerne played better in the second half and hit double digits in the third and fourth quarters, while they kept Navarro at single digits over the final two stanzas.

The Lady Greyhounds tallied 13 and 19 for 32 second-half points and held the Panthers to 5 and 9 to get the win.

Jamie Ruede finished with 17 points, Abby Smith and Jenna Ruede both scored 7, Chloe Donnell and Averi Aaron netted 6, Savannah Salinas tallied 4 and Sushanna Cobb hit a free throw.

Smith snagged 6 rebounds, Jenna Ruede recorded 5 assists and 4 steals, while Jamie Ruede also came up with 4 steals.
