Bobcats fall to Blanco but defeat Florence

The Bobcat boys basketball team hosted Blanco on Saturday to make up for last Tuesday’s game that was postponed due to the winter weather event.

Comfort was trailing and made a late push, but Blanco prevailed 57-41. With the loss, the Cats fall to 12-19 overall and 2-6 in district. They hosted Ingram on Tuesday.

Comfort had a slow start and was outscored in the first half, 37-15, with the Bobcats only tallying 6 and 9 points in the first two quarters.

CHS played better in the second half and hit for 12 in the third and 14 in the fourth to outscore the Panthers, 26-20, but Comfort just couldn’t make up enough ground in the final 16 minutes.

Joel Lozano led the Cats with 16 points, Santos Hernandez added 11, Jaydin Steward netted 6, Jovani Zapata had 4, Tony Ybarra scored 3 and Landon Aguirre made a free throw.

Vs. Florence

The Bobcats traveled to Florence on Friday and with the help of a 20-0 run in the third quarter, Comfort stampeded past the Buffaloes, 52-36.

It was a close game until the third quarter. The Cats held a 23-21 lead at halftime and then won the third quarter 20-0 to open up a 43-21 advantage.

Florence did outscore Comfort in the final stanza, 15-9, but not enough to make up the difference and the Cats won by comfortable margin.

Jaydin Steward had the hot hand and scored 12 for the Bobcats, Joel Lozano added 9, Jovani Zapata and Terick Rodriguez netted 8 apiece, Santos Hernandez finished with 6, Landon Aguirre and Tony Ybarra tallied 3 apiece, Eli Gilliland had 2 and Ollie Engleman hit a free throw.
