Wimberley played the Boerne High boys basketball team close through the first three quarters of Friday’s district game at Greyhound Gym before a packed house but BHS was just too much for the Texans down the stretch.
Boerne was only leading by two points after three quarters but the Hounds outscored the Texans in the final period by a football like score of 24-7 to secure the 19-point win, 63-44.
Friday’s victory kicked off the second round of district action for the BHS team that improved to 22-5 overall and 7-0 in district. They were scheduled to play Navarro on Thursday before hosting Canyon Lake Friday.
In last Friday’s contest, the Hounds were up 10-7 and then outscored the Texans in the second by three points again, 16-13, for the 26-20 halftime lead.
Wimberley had a strong third quarter, its best scoring quarter of the night and outscored the Hounds, 17-13, and the Boerne lead was down to just two points at 39-37, at the end of three.
But that’s when the Greyhounds started to pull away and dropped in 24 and held the Texas to 7 in the fourth quarter after they wore down the visitors from Wimberley.
The Greyhounds had four in double figures and almost had five after Koen Wolff led the team with 22 points, while Houston Hendrix, Barrett Pape and Colton Hoegemeyer all netted 10, while Trevor Agarwal added 9 and Casen Hoegemeyer chipped in with 2.
