On a night when the Champion boys basketball team struggled from the outside, Dakarai Hodge had a big night on the inside last Friday in Kerrville and tallied a season-high 28 points.
Hodge’s performance helped pace Champion past the Antlers, 51-47, as they improved to 25-3 overall and 7-2 in district.
They are scheduled to host Pieper on Thursday and then visit Smithson Valley on Friday to close out the week.
In last Friday’s game, Hodge was 12 for 19 from 2-point range and then went 4 for 6 at the free-throw line for his 28 points and the Chargers basically needed all those points since they only won by four.
Braden Baum finished with 6 points, Mason Wyatt and Charlie Georgelos both chipped in with 5, Quinn Grable added 4 and Baeden Burdick drained a 3.
Hodge and Baum both grabbed 7 rebounds apiece to lead the Chargers on the boards, and Georgelos snagged 5 rebounds.
Champion was only 3 for 21 from the 3-point line for 14 percent but found a way to win. They made up for it with Hodge’s shooting on the inside and the Chargers were also good at the free-throw line and went 12 for 14 at the charity stripe for 85 percent.
