Despite not having top scorer and rebounder, Meghan Davis, due to early and often foul trouble, the Comfort Deer pulled away for a 42-33 home win against Llano on Friday.
With the victory, the Deer improved to 3-4 in District 5-3A play and 14-17 overall. They are scheduled to play Blanco next.
Llano was up 9-6 after one but the Deer outscored the Lady Jackets in the second 13-10 to tie it at halftime, 19-19.
Comfort played well in the second half and the Deer only missed one shot over the final two quarters, going 7 of 8 from the field and 7 of 11 from the free throw line as they pulled away.
For the game, Comfort was 12 for 23 from the field for 52.2 percent and made 3 of 4 3-pointers.
CHS took the third quarter, 9-7, for the 28-26 edge as the teams went to the fourth quarter. From there, the Deer doubled up Llano in the final stanza by a touchdown, 14-7 for the 9-point win.
Freshman point guard Jael Hernandez had a career-high 20 points to pace the Deer, while Katie Haffner added 9 and Lula Jaime 7. Emily Rivera, Bailey Feldman and Katelyn Cook all chipped in with 2 points.
Davis did grab 6 rebounds, Zapata and Feldman had 3 steals each and Jaime dished out 2 assists.
