Boerne High closed out the first round of district basketball action Friday at home in first place after the Greyhounds defeated Davenport.

The BHS boys claimed the 66-32 victory and begin the second round Tuesday in first place when they host Canyon Lake. The Hounds are 22-6 overall and 5-0 in 28-4A.

Prior to Friday, Boerne defeated Bandera, 56-45.

Vs. Davenport

Devin Styles didn’t miss much on Friday and was 7 for 8 from 2-point range and finished with 18 points in the game.

Barrett Pape was also in double figures with 15 points and was 2 for 2 from 3-point range. Preston Thompson added 8 points, Sam Waters scored 7, Koen Wolff netted 5, while Koby Hunter, Colton Hoegemeyer and Josh Hines chipped in with 3 points apiece and Houston Hendrix and Jeffrey Brown both hit for 2.

The Hounds were good at the line and went 12 for 14 for 86 percent.

Styles grabbed 7 rebounds, Hendrix came up with 3 steals, 3 assists and 4 rebounds and Pape had 3 assists.

Vs. Bandera

The Hounds defeated Bandera last Tuesday, 56-45, and had to rally past the Bulldogs who were winning at the half, 26-23. Boerne outscored the Bulldogs in the third 16-7 for the 39-33 advantage and then won the fourth, 17-12.

Devin Styles led the way with 24 points and 10 rebounds, Koen Wolff added 18, Houston Hendrix scored 10 points and grabbed 9 rebounds, and Barrett Pape finished with 4 as only four Hounds scored in the game.
