Cardiovascular disease looks different in women vs. men
Cardiovascular disease looks different in women vs. men

Dear Doctors: I’m a 38-year-old woman in good health. I kept getting a tight chest while running, so my doctor did some tests. He said my heart looked fine. But when I went for a second opinion, I was diagnosed with microvascular disease. I’ve never even heard of that before. What is it? Dear Reader: You’ve introduced a topic of great importance to women of all ages: the fact that cardiovascular disease often takes a different form -- and comes with different symptoms -- in women than in men.

Book & Arts Festival takes off in October

I’ve been reading many inspirational books over the last couple of years – both fiction and non-fiction. The most recent book I’ve read is “Making Space for Women: Stories from Trailblazing Women of NASA’s Johnson Space Center” edited by Jennifer M. Ross-Nazzal and published by Texas A&M University Press. This book is a goldmine filled with stories by many trailblazing women, going back 40 years or more to NASA’s beginnings. It includes the stories of women astronauts, flight controllers, administrative support and much more
