Courier and Ives would be proud

There are lots of reasons to celebrate during the Christmas Season. Family members often come together finding time for holiday activities-- with sincere intentions of celebrating peace, love and goodwill towards mankind.

There are lots of reasons to celebrate during the Christmas Season. Family members often come together finding time for holiday activities-- with sincere intentions of celebrating peace, love and goodwill towards mankind.

Usually begun with listening to one’s favorite Christmas music, traditions include decorating the Christmas tree, baking holiday cookies, wrapping holiday gifts and perhaps watching your favorite Christmas movies.

Fortunately for those of you who have resided in Kendall for years, you know Boerne and Comfort plan a plethora of activities that have become, to many, part of your family traditions. For our new residents, welcome to “Christmas in a Hallmark card”!

Saturday evening, Dec. 3, at 6 p.m., we celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Weihnachts (Christmas) Parade, produced and managed by the City of Boerne and featuring over 100 holiday floats, bands and other entrants. The parade will travel down the historic Hauptstrasse (Main Street) to River Road. Rain date is Sunday, Dec. 4.

Two additional weekends, hosted by the Boerne Retail and Restaurant Owners Association, are Toast to Olde Towne Dec. 10 and 11, and Kinder Fest, Dec. 16 and 17.

Toast to Olde Towne features a date night, offering parents child-sitting services at the Patrick Heath Public Library while last minute shopping is accomplished. Wassail and mulled-wine will be available to add to your “toasts to Olde Towne” from some of the 80-plus retailers, as you soak in the lights and holiday magic created for you along the Hill Country Mile.

Kinder Fest features a Santa Scavenger Hunt, and Santa himself will make an appearance for last minute pictures and wish list requests, at J Forks. BYOC (bring your own camera) and know there will be a line.

Sunday, Dec. 18, 7 p.m. Mark your calendars for A Boerne Christmas performed by The Boerne Concert Band, FREE to the public. Boerne High School Auditorium, 201 Charger Boulevard. Engaging music for the Christmas Season will be featured as well as two original compositions from Boerne composers, The Bells of Christmas by Marty Hill, and My Lord Has Come arranged by Dani Person.

The Boerne Concert Band is made up of musical members from all over the Texas Hill Country, and directed by Larry Schmidt. These accomplished members of the band come from all walks of life, including middle, high school and college students, lifetime musicians, military veterans, and retired band directors.

Whether you are following established family traditions or creating new rituals for your family to cherish and look forward to, traditions help strengthen family bonds and connect us to our community and family history.
