RIVER ROAD RUN: Start the New Year off running full speed ahead at this racing event. There are options for all ages with distances of 5K, 10 miles, 13.1 miles and the excruciating 0.5K. Start times are: 8 a.m. for 13K and 10-milers, 8:30 a.m. for 10K and 5K competitive walkers, 9 a.m. for the 5K and 9:30 for the half-mile fun run. JANUARY 7
Boerne Farmer’s Market opens the New Year with a 4-7 p.m. open market in the parking lot of the former county courthouse at 402 E. Blanco Road. Vendors provide quality, locally grown and produced agricultural products, prepared food and artisan specialty goods, sold for the benefit of both the consumer and producer.
JANUARY 8
CLASSIC MOVIE DAY: Patrick Heath Public Library sponsors the 1 p.m. showing of “After The Thin Man,” a 1936 murder mystery comedy starring William Powell, Myrna Loy and James Stewart, at The Center at Kronkosky, 17 Old San Antonio Road. The showing is free and open to the public.
JANUARY 11
KULHMANN-KING TOURS by the Boerne Area Historical Preservation Society. Step back in time to experience and explore how a Boerne family would have lived in the late 1800s. Tours go from noon to 3 p.m. at the Historical Complex, 402 E. Blanco Road. Tours are free but donations are always welcome.
MEET CHILDREN’S AUTHOR Orlando Garza, who will be signing and selling copies of his books between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. during the Second Saturday Author Signing program at the Patrick Heath Public Library lobby, 451 N. Main St. Garza’s book titles include Baby Bunch, Butter Fingers, and The Abnormal Orangutan.

PRARIE RESTORATION WORKSHOP at the Cibolo Center for Conservation. Join The Cibolo, 140 City Park Road, from 9-11 a.m. for tips and resources for a successful native plant restoration. The group will discuss where to find information on what seeds should be planted, how to prepare the seedbed, how to plant, and what to expect after the planting. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at cibolo.com.
BOERNE MARKET DAYS is held the second weekend of each month on Main Plaza, 100 N. Main St. Operating hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
