The Holy Cross football team is ranked No. 1 in the TAPPS state rankings for a reason and they showed why Friday night when they defeated the Geneva School of Boerne, 61-7.
Geneva slips to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in district. The Eagles have a short week and visit New Braunfels Christian Academy Thursday in the GVTC Game of the Week.
Holy Cross was up 20-0 in the first quarter thanks to a running, passing and defensive touchdown off an interception returned for a score.
The Knights really poured it on in the second period with 28 more points.
Holy Cross QB Gilbert Alvarado, who had five TD passes in the game, tossed four of them in the second quarter, two to Nick Hall, while the others went to Marcos Gomez and Diego Fernandez and the Knights cruised to a 48-0 lead at halftime.
Once the second half started, the game went to 8-minute quarters and a running clock. Still, the Knights managed to score two more touchdowns.
Holy Cross returned the opening kickoff of the third quarter for a score and opened up a 55-0 lead before Geneva finally got on the board.
Bryce Hanover capped a Geneva drive with a 12-yard run into the end zone. Parker Eiland kicked the PAT early in the fourth to make it 55-7.
From there, the Knights added a late passing touchdown for the final of 61-7.
Comfort was held to 79 total yards in the game, while the Knights rolled to 311 total yards.
