LAREDO - Boerne had a successful run to the border Thursday night after the Greyhound football team defeated Edcouch-Elsa in the second round of the playoffs in Laredo, 38-8.

The Greyhounds advance to the third round where they'll face the winner of the Alice - Victoria West contest on the Friday after Thanksgiving.

Boerne scored in every quarter of Thursday's game and was up 10-0 in the first quarter after scoring on its first two possessions. The Greyhound defense almost pitched a shutout, but the Yellowjackets were able to boot a 53-yard field goal that cleared with plenty of room for their only points of the game.

One of Boerne's chartered buses broke down on the way to Laredo but everybody made it in time and the Greyhounds rolled to the big win and improved to 9-3 overall and have won seven straight.

For more on the game, look in this weekend's Boerne Star.
