Lady Chargers suffer first district loss in volleyball

Boerne Champion suffered its first district loss in volleyball Tuesday on the road at Pieper.

It was a battle of undefeated teams in 26-5A and the Lady Warriors remained unbeaten after they knocked off the Lady Chargers in four sets. Champion took the first set, 25-19, but Pieper won the next three, 25-15, 25-23, 25-20.

The Chargers are 4-1 in district and 25-5 overall, with two of those losses coming to Pieper. The Warriors are 6-0 in 26-5A as they near the end of the first round.

Champion was at New Braunfels Friday, hosts Wagner Tuesday and closes out the first round Friday when they welcome Kerrville Tivy.

Ella Coleman continues to pace the team in kills and finished with 18 of them Tuesday, while Brielle Boothe added 10 and Taylor Fenton had 9 kills.

Coleman also led the Chargers in aces and dropped in 2 of their 3, Fenton, Cassidy Breuer and Briley Wolff all tallied 3 blocks, Coleman finished with 18 digs, Samantha Calderon came up with 17 digs and Boothe registered 13 digs, while Azteca Crawford had 9 digs and 37 assists.
