The Comfort football team picked up a good road win against a solid Johnson City team Friday night. It was a close contest but the Bobcats prevailed, 21-14.
Comfort wins its second in a row after dropping their opener and is 2-1.
The Bobcats travel to Llano on Friday and then host Bandera for Homecoming to close out non-district on Oct. 4.
Neither Comfort nor Johnson could get much going offensively in the first half. The Bobcats were only up 7-0 at the break after Topping Sterling scored on a 7-yard run with 2:39 remaining in the half.
Early in the third, Johnson City tied it at 7-7 on an 85-yard touchdown run just 24 seconds into the second half.
It stayed knotted at 7-7 until the fourth quarter when the Bobcats put it away with two touchdowns.
Hunter Ledlow put Comfort up 14-7 after he capped a CHS drive with a 5-yard run into paydirt with 11:48 left in the contest.
Comfort QB Carter Pape added to the Bobcats lead when he also scrambled into the end zone from 7 yards and the lead was 21-7 with 6:48 remaining.
The Eagles tried to mount a comeback and with under four minutes remaining, Tripp Crownover scored on a 39-yard run and it was 21-14 with 3:16 but that’s as close as they came.
The Comfort defense tightened up and didn’t allow any more points, while the offense was able to kill the clock and preserve the win.
