Five Boerne ISD baseball players – three from Boerne Champion and two from Boerne High – were recently named all-state by the Texas Sports Writers Association.
Players are nominated by their coaches and media and then media members vote on the final selections.
Boerne High
Greyhound outfielder Dylan Perez, who just completed his junior year, was named a second team outfielder by the Texas Sports Writers.
Also, Jackson Grimes, who just wrapped up his sophomore season, landed on the TSWA honorable mention team as a pitcher.
Perez finished the year with a .361 batting average, had 8 triples, 7 home runs and 34 RBI. He has committed to play at Baylor.
Grimes went 10-1 this past season from the mound and turned in an ERA of 1.30 with 117 strikeouts. The 117 Ks was fourth best in Texas among 4A pitchers.
Grimes and Perez were also recognized as all-state by the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association.
Grimes was a second-team pitcher and Perez was a firstteam outfielder.
Boerne Champion
Sawyer Smith was named to the TSWA third team as a pitcher. Smith just wrapped up his junior year and finished this past season with a 12-1 record, had a 1.61 ERA, threw 74.1 innings and struck out 64 batters for the Chargers that finished the year at 31-9.
Jordan Ballin was an honorable mention shortstop and had a .412 batting average and tallied 18 stolen bases, 30 walks and a .554 on base percentage. The recent Charger graduate will play at UTSA.
Another Champion graduate, Evan Kuhl, was an honorable mention outfielder according to the TSWA. Kuhl ended his senior year with a .372 batting average, scored 34 runs and collected 27 RBI.
Kuhl will continue his athletic career at Trinity University and play both football and baseball.
Smith, Ballin and Kuhl were also recognized as all-state by the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association. Ballin was named to the Elite Team, Kuhl to the second team and Smith to the third team.
