Two Boerne ISD baseball players – one from each of the district’s high schools – were selected to play in the 2024 High Plains Shootout as part of the Team Texas.

Champion’s Sawyer Smith and Boerne High’s Jackson Grimes pitched on two different teams for Team Texas that had the chance to play against squads from other states.

Both Grimes and Smith were also named all-state by the Texas High School Coaches Association and by the Texas Sports Writers Association.

Sawyer Smith

Boerne Champion’s Sawyer Smith threw a couple of innings and is getting ready to start his senior year with the Chargers.

Smith finished this past season with a 12-1 record and a 1.61 ERA. He threw 74.1 innings, struck out 64 batters against 15 walks for a Champion team that went 31-9 this past season.

Jackson Grimes

Boerne High pitcher Jackson Grimes was also selected to play for the Team Texas Navy team in the High Plains Shootout.

Grimes completed his sophomore season with 117 strikeouts and was fourth in the state among 4A pitchers in that category. He helped lead the Greyhounds to the regional finals with a mark of 32-11. The pitcher finished with a 10-1 record, had a 1.30 ERA in 76 innings and tossed three no hitters.
