Chargers boys, girls sweep regionals, headed to state swim and dive meet

SAN ANTONIO — Boerne Champion claimed this year’s regional titles in boys and girls swimming/diving at the Region VII 5A Meet at the Southwest Aquatic Center and did so impressive fashion after they broke several school marks at the event.

The Lady Chargers blew away the field with 446.5 points, ahead of second-place Pieper (291). The Champion boys had a closer finish but still won the title with 396 points to edge Austin LASA (372) in the last race of the day.

The Champion girls broke school records in the 200-medley relay and in the 400-free relay, Bexon Harrison broke records in the 100 fly and 50 free, while Cora Skoog broke the school record in the 100 free.

Bexon Harrison was named the Male Swimmer of the Meet and Kate Canales was named the Female Swimmer of the Meet, while head coach Scott Slay was named the girls and boys Region VII Coach of the Year.

Several Champion swim/divers are headed to this weekend’s 5A state meet in Austin.

RESULTS

The Lady Chargers were 1st in the 200 IM after Kate Deykin, Kate Canales, Cameron Kellogg and Cora Skoog turned in a 1:46, while the boys team of Will Harrison, Bexon Harrison, Jake Canales and William Tolar was 2nd with a 1:36.

Madi Neuman was 7th in the 200 free at 2:07, Addison Homann placed 9th in 2:11, Breanna Hempton came in 11th in 2:17 and Ana Metz finished 16th in 2:21 to all earn team points.

Carson Muenchow was 6th in the boys 200 free in 1:53, Aaron Mendoza placed 10th in 1:59 andNash Belson finished 13th in 2:06.

In the 200 IM, Cameron Kellogg was 1st in 2:08 a nd Kate Deykin came in 2nd in 2:10.

EJ Altermatt placed 9th in the boys 200 IM in 2:10, Sarp Peterson was 14th in 2:23 and Luke Bove came in 15th in 2:27.

Cora Skoog won the 50 free in 23.68 and Cayden Van Dyne came in 13th in 27.31.

Bexon Harrison won the boys 50 free after clocking in at 20.68, William Tolar was 2nd in 21.63, Jake Canales placed 6th in 23.11 and Ethan Roecker finished 8th in 23.58.

In 1-meter diving, Jada Green was 3rd with 376.50 points, Emma Haines came in 5th with 355 points, while Colin Breuer took 1st in boys diving with 472.85 points and is diving at state for the 4th straight season.

Kate Canales won the 100 butterfly in 56.36, Audrey Olivio was 4th in 1:02, Victoria Sperber came in 6th in 1:04 and Addison Homann tied for 12th with a 1:11.

Bexon Harrison won the 100 butterfly after posting a 50.12, EJ Altermatt was 5th in 56.81, Owen Altermatt finished 9th in 58.73 and Cian Maloney placed 14th in 1:03.

Cora Skoog won the 100 free with a 51.54, Kenna Chastain was 5th in 56.63, Meghan Jackson came in 7th in 58.16 and Cayden Van Dyne placed 11th in 1:00.

Will Harrison took 1st in the boys 100 free in 47.95, William Tolar was 2nd in 48.38 and Aaron Mendoza finished 12th with a 54.71.

Breanna Hempton was 12th in the 500 freestyle with a 6:20 and Ana Metz placed 14th in 6:38.

In the boys 500 free, Carson Muenchow finished 4th in 5:00 and Owen Altermatt was 6th in 5:07.

In the girls 200 free relay, Kenna Chastain, Madi Neuman, Audrey Olivio and Victoria Sperber teamed up for 3rd with a 1:44, while the boys 200-free relay captured 1st after William Tolar, Jake Canales, Will Harrison and Bexon Harrison combined for a time of 1:25.

Kate Deykin took 2nd in the girls 100 backstroke in 59.79, Kenna Chastain was 6th in 1:05, Meghan Jackson came in 10th in 1:06 and Audrey Oliva finished 12th in 1:07.

Will Harrison placed 3rd in the boys 100 back with a time of 55.01, Ethan Roecker was 4th in 57.15, Roberto Perez Puente placed 6th in 58.33 and Luke Bove finished 14th in 1:03.

Kate Canales won the 100 breaststroke in 1:03, Cameron Kellogg took 3rd in 1:08, Madi Neuman placed 6th in 1:10 and Victoria Sperber was 7th in 1:12.

Jake Canales finished 9th in the boys 100 breaststroke in 1:04 and Cian Maloney was 14th in 1:11.

The Champion girls capped the meet by winning the 400-free relay after Cora Skoog, Kate Deykin, Cameron Kellogg and Kate Canales teamed up for a 3:34.

The Champion boys wrapped up the regional title by finishing 5th in the 400-free relay after Owen Altermatt, Carson Muenchow, EJ Altermatt and Roberto Perez Puente combined for a time of 3:32 for 28 team points.
