Geneva pulls away from Centurions with strong second half
Geneva School of Boerne turned a close game into a blowout Friday night in Corpus Christi as the Eagles defeated John Paul II.
Friday’s contest was tied at halftime 14-14, but Geneva exploded for 43 second-half points on its way to a 57-14 victory over the Centurions to start district play at 1-0.
Geneva improves to 5-3 overall and continues league action Friday with another road trip, this time to take on Schertz John Paul II.
After that, the Eagles host Holy Cross to close out the regular season on Nov. 3.
The Eagles were coming off a bye week and returned to action for the first time since Oct. 5, and maybe they used the first half to knock off the rust because once the second half started, Geneva could hardly be stopped.
The Eagles started to pull away in the third quarter after they outscored the Corpus Christi school 29-0 to open up a 43-14 advantage.
Geneva closed it out with two fourth-quarter touchdowns to ice the game before making the long drive home to Boerne.
