The GVTC Foundation’s inaugural community event, the Game Day 5K, raised more than $14,000 for area charities and organizations.

As part of its commitment to fostering community involvement and diversifying fundraising efforts, The GVTC Foundation orchestrated an event that not only provided an invigorating and unforgettable experience but also united participants around a shared cause.

The Game Day 5K drew individuals, families, and friends together for a day of physical activity, camaraderie, and spirited celebration.

Participants ran, strolled, or walked alongside their loved ones and donned the vibrant colors and logos of their favorite high school, college, or professional sports teams, infusing the event with an electrifying Game Day atmosphere.

The Knibbe Ranch, renowned for its captivating natural beauty, offered a unique running route encompassing both paved and trail segments. Attendees reveled in the hill country scenery, caught glimpses of local wildlife, and embraced the spirit of the occasion.

The post-race celebration, held upon crossing the finish line, was a vibrant affair. The festivities culminated in an awards ceremony, where runners were presented with medals, further amplifying the sense of achievement and camaraderie.

“The Game Day 5K has exceeded our expectations and has solidified its place as a unique platform for community members to come together and support a worthy cause,” Sonia Aguillon, President of The GVTC Foundation, said. “The GVTC Foundation remains dedicated to uplifting our community, and this event encapsulated that mission in a dynamic and engaging way.”

The GVTC Foundation awarded a $1,000 scholarship to the youth program “that had the most spirit,” the Spring Branch Middle School cross country team. The Pieper cheer team was also given a $500 sponsorship for cheering on the Game Day runners and adding a whole new level of excitement to the day.

These contributions reflect The GVTC Foundation’s commitment to empowering the youth and investing in their growth.

Ritchie Sorrells, President and CEO of GVTC, said, “The Game Day 5K exemplifies the spirit of collaboration and unity that defines The GVTC Foundation. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the sponsors and attendees who embraced this event and its underlying purpose.”

The GVTC Foundation thanked the sponsors whose generous support brought the Game Day 5K to fruition. Organizers look forward to hosting more to champion community unity, physical wellness and a vision of a brighter future.
