Greyhound runners compete in Round Rock
The Boerne High cross-country teams competed at the McNeil XC Invite last weekend in Round Rock at Old Settler’s Park, site of this year’s state meet in early November.
The BHS boys finished second and beat four state-ranked teams according to coach Chris Carter, while the Lady Greyhounds placed sixth.
BHS was scheduled to host a meet this weekend at Voss Middle School Saturday morning.
Varsity Boys
The boys from Boerne finished second in the 4A varsity race held Friday. BHS tallied 137 points to come in second behind race winner 3A Lytle that won the event with 101 points.
Giddings bagged bronze with 140 points in the field of 35 teams and 286 individual runners.
Carsten Bain led the Boerne team with a ninth-place finish in a time of 16:47.7, Jackson Temple came in 17th after running a 17:09.6, Barrett Crofut took the 25th spot at 17:24, Aaron Garcia posted an 17:31.2 for 30th and Caleb Benchoff finished the race in 18:05.4 for 56th place to round out the scoring five.
Ben Macias recorded an 18:06.6 for 57th, Ethan Christianson came in 87th at 18:36.9 and Hunter Prince rounded out the team with a time of 18:46.5.
Varsity Girls
Boerne High finished sixth in the 4A girls race with 211 points in a field of 29 teams and 239 individual runners.
Fredericksburg topped the field with 61 points, Celina was second at 124 points and Davenport placed third with 132 points. Pilot Point (180) and La Feria (181) were ahead of the Lady Hounds in fifth and sixth.
Eleanor Davis paced BHS with a 14th-place finish in a time of 12:10.7 over two miles.
Mary Marino clocked in at 13:09.3 for 41st, Mahaley Merkens came in 44th in 13:11.1, Genevieve Sengler posted a time of 13: 24.9, Lilly Cox completed the course in a time of 13:26.9 for 58th, Molly Briskey turned in a 13:37.6 and Kiera Sawyer was 91st with a time of 13:56.9.
