Geneva tallies
49
points in win at Milano
Geneva School of Boerne made the long drive to Milano Friday night and then made short work of the Eagles.
Geneva jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter and then took a 42-7 lead into halftime before claiming the 49-28 victory in the battle of Eagles squads.
Geneva is 3-3 overall and scheduled to play Thursday against Brentwood Christian Academy, 6 p.m., before going on their bye week.
After Thursday’s game, they’ll open district play Oct. 20 at Corpus Christi John Paul II.
Geneva quarterback Jacob Rosenstiel tossed three TD passes in the first quarter to put the Eagles in the driver’s seat.
Less than two minutes into the contest, Rosenstiel found JonMichael Raimondo on a 40-yard strike.
After Milano fumbled on the ensuing kickoff, Geneva took advantage of a short field and Rosenstiel found K.P. Fitzgerald on a 22-yard scoring strike for the 14-0 lead barely three minutes in.
Rosenstiel and Fitzgerald connected later in the quarter and the Eagles bumped their lead to 21-0.
Milano finally got on the board in the second quarter but Geneva fired back with three more TDs in the stanza to blow it open.
Fitzgerald came up with an interception to set up Geneva’s next score. A few plays later, Noah Brunsvold scored on a scramble from the 6-yard line. Then Rosenstiel tallied two more touchdowns, this time on the ground, with rushing scores of 6 and 15 yards to give the Eagles a 42-7 lead at the break.
With a short week ahead, Geneva coach Grant Gaston started moving players in and out in the second half and the Eagles only scored once over the final two periods.
Geneva’s final TD came early in the fourth on another Rosenstiel run, this one from 18 yards, to give the Eagles signal caller three passing and three rushing touchdowns.
Milano finished the game by scoring the final 21 points of the game. For more on the Eagles, see the Star.
